Home Island County Camano Island
Emergency Plumber on Camano Island, WA
Camano Island is a bridge-connected island of wells, waterfront cabins, and no city government at all. Pyper Plumbing is on call 24/7 for the plumbing trouble that comes with that.
Camano Island is about 40 square miles with roughly 50 miles of shoreline, and more than 17,000 people called it home in 2020. Yet no town here has ever incorporated. That means no city government running water for the whole island. Homes get water from private wells and small shared systems instead.
One bridge at Stanwood connects Camano to the mainland, which helps when you need a plumber in a hurry. Pyper Plumbing handles 24/7 emergency repair for Camano homes, from burst lines to dead water heaters. Here is what we know sets plumbing here apart.

Plumbing in Camano Island: what to know
Wells, shared systems, and the sea
County staff sort drinking water into private wells, two-party systems, small Group B systems, and larger Group A systems. Island-wide, wells close to the shore are the biggest worry for seawater creeping in. A 1985 USGS study found intrusion in parts of northeastern and southern Camano, and a 2010 county report said north Camano water levels were dropping. Those are old numbers, but they explain why some Camano homeowners deal with salty or low-yield wells. We fix the plumbing that suffers: corroded fixtures, failing heaters, and leaking fittings.
Septic by the water
About 72 percent of Island County residents use septic systems. On Camano, the Maple Grove beach neighborhood is a good example of what can go wrong. Testing since 2012 found high bacteria levels in the water offshore, likely from failing septic systems, and a shellfish harvest ban followed. Neighbors built a shared system with seven tanks that move wastewater uphill to a community drainfield. We do not work on septic tanks or drainfields, but we can check the house side when a toilet or drain acts up.
Resort cabins turned year-round homes
In the 1920s, Camano filled with summer cabins and resorts, mostly along the west shore on Saratoga Passage, and the island was promoted as one you could drive to. Many of those small cabins are now permanent homes or still sit empty much of the year. Old cabin plumbing can mean thin supply lines and few shutoffs. Repiping and adding shutoff valves can turn a surprise flood into a small drip.
Getting help across a bridge
Before 1909, Camano residents relied on boats and a wagon ferry. A bridge over the Stillaguamish River at Stanwood connected the island that year. Today it is still the way off, and a single road can slow things down in storms or heavy traffic. During a plumbing emergency, shut off the main, open a lower faucet to drain the lines, and call us right away so we can plan the route.

Camano Island plumbing questions
Is there city water on Camano Island?
No city runs water here, because Camano has never incorporated a town. Homes use private wells, small shared systems, or larger community water associations. Check your bill or ask your neighbors which one you are on. We fix the plumbing inside your home either way.
My well water tastes salty. Can you fix it?
Salty well water is a job for a well professional, because it can mean seawater is getting into the aquifer. We can repair the plumbing that salt and minerals wear out, like fixtures, valves, and water heaters, and we can tell you what we see.
Do you come out to Camano Island for emergencies?
Yes. Camano is one of the areas we serve for emergency plumbing. The Stanwood bridge is the way on and off the island, so call early and tell us your neighborhood. In the meantime, shut off your main water valve.
