Emergency Plumber in Everett, WA

Everett has old brick-era neighborhoods, a busy waterfront and plenty of apartments, and every one of them can spring a leak. Pyper Plumbing is ready day or night.

Everett sits on a peninsula between Port Gardner Bay and the Snohomish River delta, and it has been a working city since the railroad showed up in the 1890s. That mix of old streets and newer buildings means plumbing of every age under one roof line. A 1920s house and a new downtown apartment can have the same Saturday-night emergency.

We are Pyper Plumbing, and emergencies are our thing. Burst pipe at midnight, toilet overflowing before guests arrive, water heater leaking through the ceiling: call us and we will help you stop the damage and get things working again.

Local know-how

Plumbing in Everett: what to know

Old sewers in the north end

Everett laid its first sewers back in 1890. The older northern part of the city still uses a combined system, where household wastewater and rainwater share pipes. Newer southern areas have separate lines. For homeowners, that mix of old and new matters. Heavy rain can load the system, and older neighborhoods may have aging sewer laterals between the house and the street. If you have slow drains in several fixtures or sewage smell in the basement, the main line is worth a look.

Water from the Sultan River

Your tap water here most likely started in the Upper Sultan River watershed, stored in Spada Lake and Lake Chaplain, and then treated at the city's plant. Everett took over its water system from a private company in 1915 and switched to the Sultan River supply a few years later. The same supply serves a large part of the county. Good source water does not stop old fittings from wearing out, so leaks at worn valves and supply lines still happen.

Renters, landlords and apartment living

According to the 2020 census, roughly 55 percent of Everett housing units are renter-occupied. Downtown has added apartments and hotels, and zoning now allows tall buildings. In multi-unit buildings a leak rarely stays in one place, so water can reach the neighbors below fast. If you rent, tell your landlord right away and shut off the fixture valve if you can. Property managers can call us for emergency repairs, too.

Cold snaps and the rain belt

Everett sits at the north end of the Puget Sound Convergence Zone, which can bring heavier rain and stronger wind than nearby towns. Hard freezes are rare, which means plumbing is rarely built for them. In January 2024, Everett firefighters handled 27 calls in about a day, mostly broken water pipes. Protect outdoor spigots and exposed lines, and know where your main shutoff is before you need it.

FAQ

Everett plumbing questions

Why do older Everett homes have so many drain problems?

Many neighborhoods in the north end were built when Everett's first sewers went in, and the city still has older combined sewer areas. Aging pipes, roots and years of buildup can slow drains. A camera inspection can show whether the problem is a simple clog or a failing line.

Where does Everett's water come from?

Most of it comes from the Sultan River watershed in the Cascade foothills. It is stored in Spada Lake and Lake Chaplain, treated, and sent through the city's pipes. The same system also supplies water to many other communities in Snohomish County.

I rent in Everett. Can I call a plumber myself?

In an emergency, shut off the water and tell your landlord or property manager first. They usually need to approve repairs. If they ask us to come out, we can handle the emergency repair. For safety, do not wait if water is spreading.
