Plumbing in Granite Falls: what to know
Years of waiting on sewer hookups
In 2018, Granite Falls was close to its sewer capacity, so the city paused most new connections and stopped development. The pause lasted until February 2026, when the city lifted the moratorium and developers quickly applied. Behind the change is a new 34 million dollar treatment plant that opened in 2026. If you own an older home here, expect more building activity around you.
A better plant, and more room
The new plant can serve about 8,800 people, nearly double today's population, and it replaced an older facility the city called outdated. It uses ultraviolet disinfection and covers much of its equipment to cut odors. It still discharges into the Pilchuck River, which limits how large the plant can ever grow. For homeowners, the plant is not your pipe, but your sewer line from house to street is yours to maintain.
PUD water from Everett's system
The city buys its tap water from the Snohomish County PUD, which draws on Everett's supply at Spada Lake and Lake Chaplain. Since 2012 the PUD has also used groundwater wells near Lake Stevens, treated to be similar. Pressure and pipe age still vary by neighborhood. Slow flows or cloudy water after repairs are worth a call.
A little warmer, a little wetter
Granite Falls has a marine climate with most rain falling between October and May. Because it sits a bit inland, summers can run up to 10 degrees warmer than Everett. That mix of heat, rain and the odd cold snap works on outdoor spigots, irrigation lines and exposed pipes. If you spend time up the Mountain Loop, a cabin or second home needs winterizing and a plan for leaks while you are away.

Granite Falls plumbing questions
Does Granite Falls have city sewer?
Yes. The city runs a sanitary sewer system with a treatment plant that discharges to the Pilchuck River. A new plant opened in 2026, and the city lifted its connection pause in February 2026. Properties outside the system may still use septic. Ask the city about your address.
Where does Granite Falls get its water?
The city buys water from the Snohomish County PUD. That water comes from Everett's system at Spada Lake and Lake Chaplain, and since 2012 the PUD also uses wells near Lake Stevens. Your bill shows which agency to contact.
Can you help with plumbing at a cabin on the Mountain Loop?
We can help with plumbing repairs inside the home, like leaks, fixtures and water heaters. We do not install septic systems. For remote properties, call us with the address and the problem so we can talk through options.
