Garbage Disposal Repair and Installation

A disposal that hums, jams or leaks is annoying and sometimes risky to poke at. We sort out the cause and get your sink working again.

Why you need to call a plumber

A disposal sits where plumbing, electricity and spinning metal meet. That mix is why basic safety matters here. Never put a hand into a disposal, even when it looks off. Power it off at the switch and unplug it or shut off its breaker first.

A leak is the most common reason to call. Water can come from the sink flange, the unit body, the dishwasher hose connection, or the drain pipe. Each is a different fix, and finding the right one takes patience with a dry paper towel and a flashlight.

Repeated jams and slow draining can also be a sign that the problem is not the disposal at all but the drain line past it. A pro checks both so you do not keep resetting a unit that is working fine.

The Pyper way

How Pyper fixes it

Find the cause

We turn off the power, then look at the unit. Is it jammed, overloaded, leaking, or clogged downstream? We check the flange seal, the drain connections, the dishwasher inlet and the trap. We separate a motor problem from a plumbing problem before replacing anything.

Clear or repair

For a jam, we free the blades with the proper hex wrench or tool at the bottom of the unit and remove whatever caused it. For a leak, we reseal the flange or tighten and replace the gaskets and fittings. If the housing itself is cracked or the motor is failing, we talk replacement.

Install a new unit properly

A new disposal needs a solid mount, a sealed sink flange, a properly connected drain and dishwasher inlet, and a knockout plug removed if a dishwasher is hooked up. If the electrical supply or wiring is the problem, that is a job for an electrician, since Pyper does not do electrical work.

Test and explain

We run water through the unit and watch every connection for drips. We check the grind, the drain flow and the reset button. Then we tell you what to avoid, like grease, fibrous scraps and bones, and give you a simple routine for keeping it fresh.

Safe things to try, and clear limits

With the power off, you can use the hex socket at the bottom of many units to turn the blades back and forth, then press the reset button. You can also pull a stuck item out with tongs, never your hand. That is fine for a simple jam. Stop if the unit leaks, trips repeatedly, smells burnt, or if you are unsure the power is off. Anything involving wiring is for an electrician. Mounting and plumbing a replacement is where leaks and loose connections often creep in.

Fixed right the first time

A disposal that keeps jamming or leaking usually has a cause outside the motor: a bad flange seal, a clogged drain line, a mismatched trap, or a habit of feeding it the wrong things. By checking the whole sink drain, using the right gaskets and mounting parts, and testing under running water, we aim to fix the cause, not just reset the problem for a week.

Questions we hear

My disposal hums but will not spin. What now?

It is likely jammed. Power it off first, then try turning the blades with the hex socket at the bottom, remove what is stuck with tongs, and press reset. If it keeps happening, call us.

Why is my disposal leaking?

It could be the sink flange seal, the unit body, the dishwasher hose or the drain connection. Dry everything and watch to see where it starts. We can pinpoint it quickly.

Can you replace my disposal?

Yes. We mount, seal and connect the new unit and test it. If wiring needs work, an electrician should handle that part.

What should not go down a disposal?

Grease, coffee grounds in large amounts, stringy or fibrous scraps, bones, and pasta or rice that swell can all cause trouble. Run cold water while it works.
