No water or low pressure? Start with these checks.

Sometimes it is a closed valve or a utility outage. Sometimes it is a leak or a failing pipe. Here is how to tell, and when to call us.

What is happening

Sudden low pressure or no water can come from a closed or failing valve, a leak, a frozen line, a clogged supply, or a problem with the municipal supply. The cause is not always inside your house, and guessing wastes time.

Do this right now

  • Check whether neighbors have the same problem, since it could be a utility issue
  • Make sure the main shutoff and meter valve are fully open
  • Look and listen for leaks, and check your meter with everything off
  • See whether only hot water or only one fixture is affected
  • Call us if the cause is not clear or you find a leak
Smell gas? If you smell natural gas (a rotten-egg odor), do not touch switches, lighters or appliances. Leave the home right away and call 911 or your gas utility from a safe distance. Pyper does not do gas line work.

The Pyper way

How Pyper handles it

We test pressure, check valves, supply lines and the pressure regulator, and look for leaks or clogs along the way. Once we know which part of the system is failing, we repair that part and confirm flow at every fixture.

Rule out the simple causes

We check the main valve, the meter and whether the problem is at one fixture or the whole house.

Look for leaks

A hidden leak can drop pressure, so we test the system.

Check the pipes

Corroded or clogged pipes can restrict flow, and we assess their condition.

Fix the cause

We repair or replace the failing part and confirm pressure is back to normal.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming the city is out without checking the main valve or neighbors
  • Opening and closing valves hard, which can break old ones
  • Ignoring low pressure that comes with a wet spot or a moving meter
  • Cranking up a pressure regulator without knowing the cause

Questions we hear

Why do I have no water all of a sudden?

Check whether neighbors are affected and whether your main valve is fully open. If only your home is out, a frozen or broken line is possible, so call a plumber.

What causes low pressure in just one faucet?

Usually a clogged aerator or cartridge in that fixture, which is a simple repair.

How do I check my water pressure?

A gauge on an outdoor spigot gives a reading. Our low pressure guide covers healthy ranges and how to test.
